A Disgrace to Feminism

Feminism?
Okay, let's talk about something somewhat controversial for a second. If you haven't seen the music video for "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj, or heard the song before, then don't do it, and consider yourself lucky. If you have, you've probably noticed that it's pretty questionable. In my book, it makes the whole Wrecking Ball thing seem trifling and insignificant. I've never seen a music video so close to being a porn video in my entire life. It's literally just a bunch of nearly naked women shaking their big fat butts all over the place and singing about how guys don't want anything to do with a girl unless she has a big butt.
But what disgusts me most is not the video, or the song, but the fact that Nicki Minaj claims that "Anaconda" is a statement about feminism. She says that the song is about being okay with your body and doing whatever the heck you want. But that's some bull crap. How does a song that literally says guys only want to have sex with girls that have large butts translate to being okay with your body? What about people who have small butts? They're basically screwed, right, because no one will ever want to be with them. Oh, that's what feminism is? Wow, I've been really confused for so long, thanks for clearing it up Nicki Minaj. And also, "do whatever the heck you want"? Where in the definition of being a feminist does it say that? I don't see what Anaconda has ANYTHING to do with feminism. It's rebellious, maybe, scandalous, definitely, disgusting, absolutely. But it's certainly the complete opposite of feminism. It's degrading and objectifying, and gives real, sincere feminists a bad name. Anaconda is to feminism what Westboro Baptist Church is to Christianity. It's a disgrace to everything that defines feminism, in the NAME of feminism! When you take something that people believe strongly in, and claim to believe in it too, and then twist it's meaning around to fit your agenda, and blast completely conflicting ideas and ideologies about it for the world to see, it destroys the original subject. If people begin to believe that "Anaconda" displays what true feminism is about, then the entire idea of women's equality to men goes down the toilet, and people regard legitimate feminists as promiscuous and whorish hellions who are completely okay with being objectified.
Feminism????
What also disgusts me is how Nicki Minaj, who came from nothing and made something of herself decided that she felt it necessary to use blatant and unnecessary sexuality to become even more popular. Instead of using her actual talents, she uses her body and her sex appeal. She's no longer a role model for anyone, except maybe prostitutes. But the thing is, she'll still be looked upon AS a role model, and little girls will grow up and want to break free from the fray just like her, and will end up using their bodies and not their minds and souls and personalities to make gains in the world. And that's an abomination. But what can we do about this? People view things like "Anaconda" as funny entertainment and say "it's no big deal, it's just for fun". What they don't realize is that everything you see, every YouTube video you watch and song you listen to and catchy tune you hum along with affects you deeply, even when you don't notice it. That's the truly scary thing. It doesn't have to be scary though. If you watch wholesome, uplifting things and surround yourself with things that affect you positively, you don't have to fall into the pit that Pop culture has dug underneath of you.
FEMINISM????????
"Anaconda" is NOT about feminism, and it has undoubtedly created a precipitous stumbling block for people who are just learning about feminism and female empowerment. That's a huge shame, because we're trying to change the world here, and overly sexualized media content and unwholesome pop culture is stunting that growth. Luckily, you don't have to be a part of it. You should be allowed to form your own opinions about feminism and not be told what to think by Nicki Minaj, or anyone else. And-- in case you didn't know-- people will still love you even if you don't have a "big fat @$$". Just saying.
