Talent! So Much Talent!
I am so happy with the Television this year. Really, they've impressed me immensely. I know how ridiculous that sounds, and I admit wholeheartedly that I do, indeed, have a slight obsession with TV and movies, but it's not without good reason. It's not like I just watch to watch. I watch because there are so many good shows and films out there! Of course, there are some doozies. I mean, why on earth is there a show entirely devoted to an already spoiled rotten little pageant girl and her crazy redneck family? And what about movies like The Room? It's impossible to even begin to describe how immensely terrible that movie is. But, despite those few flops, the film industry continues to flourish, because there are plenty of geniuses out there who come up with amazing ideas, and then turn them into a reality, which I think is really commendable.
You're probably wondering where all this is leading to: well, I have my few current favorite shows (Sleepy Hollow, Baby Daddy, Twisted, Hawaii 5-O, Saturday Night Live) that I watch with sufficient amusement, and enjoy, but then there's The Sing Off. Oh. My. Goodness. First of all, it's 2013, and I think everyone realizes that a capella singing groups are like a huge trend these days, and justifiably so, because they are super cool. But then NBC decides to make all our fantasies come true and air a televised a capella singing competition!! The Sing Off went through some rough spots (where were you, oh Sing Off, for the entirety of 2012?) But it returned stronger than ever on December 9th. The greatest thing about The Sing Off is that it's not just another singing show. Yeah, there's a difference between American Idol, The Voice, The X-Factor. They all have their unique competition guidelines and what not, but at the end of the day, they all have the same goal- to name a victor out of lots of ambitious songsters and songstresses- and The Sing Off is different. It's not one of those America Votes Popularity Contests, and it's not one of those The Judges Pick Their Favorites shows. You have to have real skill to make it anywhere on The Sing Off, and it's very entertaining and different to watch.
If you don't watch The Sing Off, I encourage you to give it a try, because it's mindblowing, and almost humbling to witness so much talent all concentrated into one televised event.
Movie Recommendation: Pitch Perfect. Oh come on, this was inevitable. Glancing off of the recent a capella boom, Pitch Perfect shows all the drama of a capella singing in a light, funny tone. Pitch Perfect, eloquently transcending genres, gives its viewers a taste of romance, comedy, action, and drama all in the format of guess what? A musical!! But a fun one. Not just a Let's Break Out Into Random Song musical. If you're looking for a night of laughter and cute fuzzy feelings, Pitch Perfect is a solid choice.
