Some Songs Are Memories: Revisited

A while ago, I did a post called "Some Songs Are Memories" in which I named a song and what came to mind when I heard it. This idea was all MF's so I have to give her credit for it. Anyway, since that was 681 days ago I figured I should do it again.

"Never Let Me Go" by Florence + the Machine. I have two memories of this song. The first is of DL and MF singing it in the spring house at my birthday last year when they were rehearsing for Teen Idol (they were really good, especially since it's a hard song to sing). The second memory of this song is of DL and I listening to it on her iPod coming back from rafting over the summer and it was dark out and we were all sleepy.

I should just do a "DL and I listening to each other's iPods" category because that's what the next few ones are going to be.

"Honeysuckle (Milwaukee)" by Canon Blue. We were driving down to the bay, listening to DL's iPod when this song came on and it was pretty perfect and I recommended it that day.

"This Is What It Feels Like" by Armin van Buuren. DL and I were listening to my iPod this time, on the way to Cape May. It was dark out and MF's mom was lost and it was near midnight and we weren't really sure where we were or when we'd be getting there.

"Cosmic Love" by Florence + the Machine. I'm pretty sure that I first heard this song in MF's car when MF's mom was driving us to the SATs.

"Fallen From the Sky" by Marketa Irglova & Glen Hansard. When I was in middle school, I stayed home alone while my mom took my brother to basketball practice and she'd left the Once soundtrack on and I was lying on the couch reading Airborn and the soundtrack repeated like three times while I finished the book. So I always associate that soundtrack with Airborn. And obviously the movie Once. (Which is awesome and you totally watch it.)

"Conrad" by Ben Howard. I associate this song with pedaling up to the top of the bridge that connects Middle Hooper's Island to Lower Hooper's Island and stopping to look at the sunset over the water. It was weirdly warm for December and it was a very quaint moment. I wasn't listening to any music at the time but when I hear that song I think of standing on the bridge looking at the sunset.

"Goodbye" by Who Is Fancy. When we were in Cape May walking around the shops this song was playing in one of them and DL Shazamed it and found out what it was called.

"American Pie" by Don McLean. My mom, brother, and I were driving to the mall when this song came on either the radio or a CD and my brother and I were in a punch-drunk kind of mood so we started singing along to the song even though neither of us knew the lyrics and at the time we thought it was basically the longest song ever made because it just kept going on and on. (It is pretty long (8 and a half minutes)).

"Brand New Day" by Joshua Radin. We were leaving Yellowstone National Park and I had recently put Joshua Radin's album on my iPod and I was in love with it so I just played it on repeat the whole time we were driving. I remember seeing a bunch of deer standing in front of a hotel and all of these people were taking pictures of them and I remember laughing at their fascination since I saw deer all the time at home. Since then, I've grown to kind of hate Joshua Radin, but I still have that memory.

"So Damn Lucky" by Dave Matthews. A few hours after a drunk guy in a little black punch buggy hit our car on the way to Saranac Lake, I remember listening to that song because I was like "Wow, I totally could have just died!"

"Blue Sky" by He & She. I used this song at the beginning of our Huck Finn video bloopers reel so now every time I hear it I think of DL and I freezing our butts off in the creek, pretending like we were on the Mississippi River, while AB filmed and AP laughed.

"You Send Me" by Sam Cooke. I think of the scene in Since You've Been Gone when Frank and Emily crash the wedding and this song is playing. That book introduced me to so many good songs. Now I want to read it again.

Okay, this post has gotten pretty long and urgh, I need to study for chem so bye!
